Part 2: SMSGTE - My radio connects to the Digipeater. Now what?

Hello!  So.  As a precursor, this was inspired by my experience trying to set up my DMR Enabled radio to send SMS messages using the SMS Gateway Service. Please know: I am in no way associated with SMSGTE.org (other than a regular user). I just figured I'd document my process to provide another way for those interested to follow. This is using the AnyTone AT-D878UVII Plus, so it IS ABLE to receive messages to the radio. It is my understanding that the previous models do not support Rx APRS.  I do not have any other models of DMR radio, so I currently can't offer any kind of step by step on anything other than the AT-D878UVII - sorry! Not saying that won't change, but it's what I have to offer at the moment. That being said, I'll do my best to make it as broad and specific as possible? (I realize what I just said... lol) Important Links for this process: GO BACK TO PART 1 - DMR RADIO SETUP INSTRUCTIONS Brandmeister Registration: https://brandmeister.network SMSGTE: h...

APRS

Just some random things that I had a hard time finding when researching how to set up APRS. Some of the things might seem pretty basic - if it doesn't apply to you, then ignore it! APRS is designed primarily for Simplex in the US. You transmit your packet on 144.390MHz so that a local Digipeater (which also receives on 144.390MHz) receives your packet. It will then take it and re-transmit it to other Digipeaters based on your Digipath or to a local iGate. Once it's received by a local iGate, it can then be translated and relayed to the internet and then show on sites like APRS.fi.  My current setup is with APRSDroid , a Baofeng UV5R , a Nagoya UT-72 Magmount VHF/UHF Antenna  and a BTECH Audio Interface Cable . If I didn't already have many of the pieces, I probably would have just spent my money on a radio that also had APRS built in or an APRS Terminal Node Connector (TNC) setup. A lot of my questions were also answered on this Reddit Post . Other helpful links: How to ...
